The spirit of POW WOW! Hawaii was in full swing at the Honolulu Night Market. Unlike its traditional closing event, HNL Night Market decided that its first event of the year would be used to welcome the week-long POW WOW! Hawaii with a large-scale event for all ages. Outside, food vendors lined up to serve an array of mouth-watering meals. Bao Boys and Musukawas made their Night Market debut and offered special dishes to their customers. At the forefront of the food booths and trucks, Kamea Hadar and HI Totzuki partnered up with Hawaiian Airlines to do a live painting of one of its ground service vehicles.
Inside, retail vendors sold a variety of clothing, accessories and art pieces. In the center of the Kaka’ako Agora warehouse, Jasper Wong opened a Big Bad Wolf Kids mural for keiki to color and draw on.
And per usual, this month’s runway show was the climax of the evening. Fashionistas took their seats at the wings of the catwalk while POW WOW! School of Music student mentors Jessica, Sam and Chloe took the stage and entertained the crowd with tunes from Sylvan Esso, Flight Facilities and Blackstreet. Afterwards, models strutted down the runway, donned in outfits designed by XIX Palms creator Ali Botma.
